Newsletter September 2010

Dear reader,

A couple of months have passed since our first newsletter and the summer (in our region) is almost over. I hope you all enjoyed the holidays you might have had! Where the summer months usually are a quiet time for many organisations, this cannot be said for IBS PE. We can clearly notice that the economic challenging times from last year have passed and that business is booming. This is also confirmed by many news stories like this item from the German engineering federation VDMA about the machine tool industry.

In this newsletter you will find some information on our ultra-precision Isara 400 CMM and the clean room that hosts it. Next to that we also have news to share about our new partnerships with ABC Trading in Korea, enabling us to grow in Asia, and Agilent, whose laser interferometry products and services have now become part of our product portfolio. Finally, to complete this newsletter, there are two items on the Euspen activies and ISO standards.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and welcome any feedback!

Milestone for IBS PE: ISARA 400 CMM operational and first machine sold!

Isara 400 CMMAfter years of research and development our first Isara 400 ultra-precision coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is now operational! This is not only a milestone in our company’s history, but it can be considered as milestone for the entire precision engineering world as well! The machine was officially presented to a Euspen conference delegation that visited our premises in June this year. Next to this visit, there was another milestone: The first Isara 400 has been sold to a German research institute!

Succesful partnership between IBS PE and ABC Trading Korea

ABC representing IBSFor a long time it has been a strong desire to be a more active player on the Asian market. This desire has now been fulfilled by the recent partnership between IBS Precision Engineering and ABC Trading in Korea. This partnership has already led to the sale of two R-Test measuring systems for machine tool calibration in South Korea!

Euspen activity update by president dr. ir. Henny Spaan.

ASML Keynote J. BenschopThe euspen conference has been a great success. We attracted a large number of delegates and had an exhibition with more high tech companies than any euspen conference before. Next to that, we also had very positive feedback on the posters and papers. The key note by dr. Jos Benschop (ASML) was highly appreciated as were the special sessions by our sister organisations ASPE and JSPE.

During my inauguration last year I presented euspen as a vibrant network, an entrepreneurial network with many activities. Some of these new activities were introduced at the Delft conference, such as the euspen challenge, a competition to identify outstanding students across Europe. The euspen challenge took place in Jena, Germany.

Coming up is the euspen event in Paris, 'Manufacturing Technologies to Support Large Science Projects' linking “Big Science” with industrial partners through Precision Engineering. This event will take place on November 25th & 26th. I hope seeing you there!
IBS PE appointed Agilent European Distributor

Agilent laser interferometryIBS Precision Engineering has been appointed as the European distributor for Agilent’s high-quality range of laser interferometer, position measurement systems. Laser position measurement systems allow users to improve product quality and reliability, maintain manufacturing consistency and increase production yields.

Because of this partnership we are now able to supply fully configurable laser interferometer systems and services throughout Europe!

ISO standards update

Starting this newsletter we will update you on ISO standards that are important and commonly used in the field of metrology.  In this newsletter edition we are taking a look at recent standards in the ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes.

Recently published standards:
  • ISO 286-1:2010 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) and ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes - Part 1: Basis of tolerances, deviations and fits
  • ISO 286-2:2010 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) and ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes - Part 2: Tables of standard tolerance classes and limit deviations for holes and shafts
New cleanroon to guarantee maximum accuracy fully operational

IBS cleanroomAs you will probably know, ideal and constant circumstances are of crucial importance in the world of precision engineering. Many variables like temperature, vibration and dust might impact measurements. That is why IBS Precision Engineering built a state-of-the-art cleanroom, about 100 square metres in size, to minimise these external factors and maximise measuring and engineering results!
